Birthday Season

Birthday season has begun for all the Taureans out there - including myself. A majority of my immediate extended family are Taureans and so birthday season celebrations will be brewing soon. Unfortunately my mama and three of my cousins aren't in town so we won't be able to celebrate everyone's birthdays together. So a special shout out to all the Taureans out there while I try to figure out what to do for my birthday.
I spent the last 1.5 days at my friend Nikita's place and I saw Superwoman videos for the first time. Now I'm sitting here wondering why I hadn't seen any before.
There's nothing much left to do now except prepare for NATA, watch TV, sleep, read, eat, blog and of course poems:

Hey Stranger

Hey stranger
Sitting on the stairs
Alone and cold
Like the blood in your veins

Hey stranger
I'm sorry for all the harm
The world has inflicted upon you
The cruelties and sufferings and pain

Hey stranger
The injustice is heard in your voice
The hunger is seen in your eyes
And sadness shadows your every step

Hey stranger
Won't anyone come
And make you their friend
Won't anyone offer a smile?

Hey stranger
I said to the new born child
Welcome to the world
I know you'll do fine

Hey friend
I say to the stranger on the stairs
No longer alone
The world's in his hands

7 Days since Yesterday

I feel like it's been forever since I've posted anything but it's been exactly a week. Time has gone by so fast that it feels like just yesterday when I went to stay at my Mama's place. Most of this week consisted of playing with my baby cousin Kiyaansh so that his parents could pack for their trip. They've all made it to Tulsa and are hopefully having a blast over there with my other cousins and grandparents.
It's been (23-6=)17 days since boards and JEE ended and I have to admit - I thought I'd miss school by now- but I don't.
I really want to see Frozen but I haven't had a chance to yet. I started and finished Revenge Wears Prada in two days and am now forbidding my self from reading anything for a while. I realized how long it's been since I've written anything when I felt good after writing 'Do Not Open' on a bunch of bags for my Mami. Now I'm back home and making plans for the next couple weeks.

Yesterday

Yesterday
seems so far away,
like a dream
I can't remember.

Yesterday
is long gone,
all that's left
are my memories.

Photographs
so unreal,
remind me
of what used to be.

Memories
shining bright,
fading slowly,
but they won't suffice.

Yesterday
like another life,
I can only reach it
in my dreams.

Yesterday,
yesterday,
won't you stay,
yesterday?

Melancholy

I read the word melancholy for the first time in third grade when we were reading the novel Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. In the book, Opal meets the librarian Mrs. Franny Block who gives her a Littmus Lozenge which tasted both sweet and sad.

"Candy tastes melancholy. I thought about how life was like a Littmus Lozenge, how the sweet and the sad were all mixed up together and how hard it was to separate them out."

Melancholy is a sad and pensive feeling, but I like to think of it as a sad and sweet feeling - like a Littmus Lozenge.

Winn-Dixie was an amazing book and of course it still is just as amazing. Another story revolving around a loving dog was the Shiloh trilogy. I don't remember much of the plot but I remember that I was very eager to read the remaining two books after reading the first one.

Sometimes I feel like children's novels are some of the best novels because they can be written so freely. A child will not question how it's possible for something to taste sad, they will simply be intrigued by it. It allows them to dream and imagine a world where anything is possible - the source of innovation, creativity and wishful thinking.

Once...

Once I found a love letter
in the middle of the street;
Drenched and running ink
from the rains the heavens weep.

Once I found a bottle
in the middle of the sea.
I opened it and found a letter
Was it meant for me?

Once I saw your face
in a crowd of many more.
That night I was hoping
you would show up at my door.

Once when I was dreaming
I wished "Once upon a time...";
When I woke up the next morning
I was living a fairytale rhyme.

Finally...

I finally saw Rio 2 - and it was amazing. There wasn't a second of the movie which was boring although I did yawn a couple times due to lack of sleep the night before.
I also finally finished reading The Devil Wears Prada so now I'll start another novel...any suggestions?
The next movie on my list is Frozen. Sadly I haven't seen it yet but I will sometime in the next few days.
Hats off to those still going to tuitions for various entrance exams and good luck to you all. I have to give NATA but there's still time before that.

Here's a short one:

Scarlet Scarf

A scarlet scarf and rose petals
Scattered on my bed
The church bell rings loud and clear
For the newlyweds

I search all that surrounds in sight
But can not find my soul
For life alas once broken
Can never again be whole

The Day After Sunday

The day after Sunday as you all know is chopday.

20 hours ago:
Anoushka came to my place around 5 and then Nikita came around 6. We did a bunch of nonsense and waited around for my brother so we could play board games like when we were small.

13 hours ago:
I'm not sure exactly when but we played a unique version of 'I never' and made name monsters.

10 hours ago:
Then we reached a point when we pretty much just started talking crap and laughed for no apparent reason.

6 hours ago:
Nikita had to leave early for Sky Blue so we said goodbye and then went back to sleep.

3 hours ago:
Anoushka and I finally woke up had brunch and then left to see Rio 2!

Chop #1: Well apparently there was a misprint in the newspaper and the theater we went to was only showing Rio 2 in Hindi.

Chop #2: We could have gone to the 2:15 show in Cinepolis but Ansh wanted to come with us and he has tuitions soon.

Chop #3: We decided to a later show timing and thought of picking Nikita up from Sky Blue since we were already near there. So we went inside and asked for her but she couldn't come because she's supposed to stay there till 8pm.

3 hours from now:
Anoushka, Ansh and I will be watching Rio 2! - hopefully there will be no more incidents.

Poem of the Day:

Glistening ball of sadness,
Wash away all my pain.

Sweet as the morning dew,
Sinful as the devil's fool.

Slowly falling to the floor,
Splashing like the murdereds gore.

But a red stain it leaves not,
Vanishing quickly, soon forgot.

Lazy Days

Lazy Days is a restaurant, RV rental company and the adjective I like to use to describe my day. It's not like I don't do anything but I'm not tired at all by the end of the day - just sleepy like I always am. Anyway, yesterday I went shopping read the next Wimpy Kid and also continued Devil wears Prada. I'm hoping to finish that soon so I can get started on the next book in the series.

The Ugly Truth and Cabin Fever were pretty good. Diary of a Wimpy Kid series is nice because there's no plot as such and so the interest level remains pretty much the same throughout the book as well as the series. And although I've been reading the books in order, you can pick up any book and still enjoy it the same. So, it's a good book to pick up if you just want to have a nice lazy day.

Speed of Time

Tick - tock, tick - tock,
Time drags slowly on the clock.
It feels so wrong,
I don't belong,
I try to run away
But to my dismay
With every step I take
The seconds grow farther away.

Tick - tock, tick - tock,
Time flies quickly on the clock.
Good times have begun,
It's so much fun,
I wish that it would stay
But to my dismay
With every breath I take
The seconds slip away.

Rio 2

Rio 2 is finally out and I'm kind of psyched about it so I'm waiting for Anoushka's exams to end so we can go see it. I haven't seen any new movies in a really long time and I loved the first part so I hope that the second part will be equally good or better. Of course in most cases the sequel isn't as good as the first but we can always hope so I'll be sitting with my fingers crossed for the next few days.

The 5 Elements

Air:
The first breath
Of a new life.
The wind
In my hair.
The sigh
On my lips.

It tickles  my ear;
Whispering to me
The answers I seak.

Fire:
The blazing sun.
The warmth
Of a summer's day.
The light
That shows us
The way.

It burns at my soul;
Blazing away bad
Memories in me.

Water:
A summer storm.
The ocean
Lapping
At my feet.
Tears rolling
Down my cheek.

It washes my mind;
Cleansing and purifying
My negative thoughts.

Earth:
Green life growing
Everywhere.
The damp soil
At my feet.
The smell of
A spring field.

It nurtures me;
Guiding me through life
To my distant fate.

Spirit:
The peace
Possessed
At sleep.
Inner strength.
Free will.
Deep thoughts.

It sets me free;
Turning my dreams
Into possibilities.

Air,
Fire,
Water,
Earth,
Spirit,
Are beckoning me.

Dining and Delusions

A restaurant that offers 'dining and delusions' sounds good right? Well I'll try to find out soon enough.
Today my internet was down all day so my day consisted of TV, my baby cousin, shopping and reading.
I read the third and fourth Wimpy Kid book yesterday and today so:

Diary of a Wimpy Kid : The Last Straw ; Dog Days
The Last Straw is about all the funny things Greg does to become the class clown during the last few months of the school year. Dog Days is about Greg's summer and how his mother wants the family to 'bond' while Greg would rather be playing video games.

Like a magnet
It pulls me closer.
Wind back the clock
And start all over.

Watch the sun
Rise and set.
Capture each
And every moment.

Baby steps
One foot forward.
Feeling dizzy
Fall back downward.

Forget the pain
Forget the sorrow.
As it pulls me closer
To tomorrow.

I just wrote that...I'm not sure what the title should be yet so I'll just leave it as it is.

Liberia

Yesterday I went to Liberia  and got Devil Wears Prada. I'm reading that along with Diary of a Wimpy Kid series because I have eight days to finish the eight Wimpy Kid books.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid : Rodrick Rules
The second book was not as good as the first; Somehow the cheese touch was more interesting than the invisible man or the bathroom incident.

Unwritten

Life's a book with pages turning
Slowly where the grass is new
Lovely as the morning dew

Sun rays hit my eyes at dawn
Day by day
Life goes on

Every page a new beginning
Beyond my bookmark
What's life holding?

Curious for what lies ahead
I turn the page
And go to bed

Dreams unravel
The past unfolds
But tomorrow remains untold

I will make my own fate
Leave no pages unturned
Can't skip to the end cuz my future's unwritten

That Place Over There

Last night we went to That Place for dinner. The food was great but it was really loud because of the small space and the background music. It was funny because a few of the families which came in after us left before us so we were trying to figure out whether they ate less or we ate more.

My brother has been a fan of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series since he was in first grade and he still reads them from time to time. He has read all eight books twelve times already so I decided that I should probably read them at least once if they're so good.

Diary of a Wimpy KidBook One
Yesterday I read the first book of the Wimpy Kid series. There were a few humorous entries and a part which was a little gross too. I realized that the reason the story was moving along quickly was because the entries weren't day-to-day, there were only about 2-3 entries per week.
The moral of the story was: always keep your fingers crossed and never lend a friend your jacket.

Follow Me Home

Summer night
Beneath a canopy of stars.
Lonely sky,
Each star a million miles apart.

But close together
In my eyes.
You're close to me
Cuz you're mine.

Don't tell me what you're doing.
Don't tell me where you are.
Just close your eyes and see me.
Feel me with the beat of your heart.

Winter chills
Got me hiding.
A billion snowflakes
Keep on falling.
 You'll never lose me
Once I'm gone,
Just follow my footsteps,
Follow me home.

Post Exams Post

Exams are finally over so here's an old poem to celebrate a new day :)

Four Seasons in a Day:

morning.
looks like clear skies.
sounds like bird songs.
smells like flowers.
tastes like fresh fruits.
feels like excitement.

afternoon.
looks like sunshine.
sounds like a thunderstorm.
smells like an ocean breeze.
tastes like popsicles.
feels like magic.

evening.
looks like fire flames.
sounds like crunching leaves.
smells like cinnamon.
tastes like pumpkin pie.
feels like amazement.

night.
looks like gingerbread houses.
sounds like christmas carols.
smells like hot chocolate.
tastes like candy canes.
feels like coziness.
